OFFICE CHAIR MAINTENANCE
Take a moment to think about the long hours you spend in your office. Which commodity do you spend the most time on using? For most of us, the first thing that pops up in our mind is our chair. As you bear on the weight of your assignments, so does your chair. Your whole body weight even. You think you’re the only one building up stress? Even your chair does! It builds up stress on some parts and starts to wear time to time. Just like any other objects, they require proper maintenance and care. So, we should really take our time in contemplating to find the perfect office chair that suits us, since it will be our number one companion in taking on arduous tasks our workplace might present.
Cloth Upholstery
If you’re in your office the moment you’re reading this, I want you to try something out for me. Stand up and face your chair. Take a good look at where your buttocks were resting on earlier. Looks comfy right? Now, give it a couple of pats and see for yourself. Just in case you’re not in your office right now, what you should’ve observed are dust particles eating away your most trusted chair. It may look brand new, but does it feel brand new? Without proper care, your office chair would lose its fluffy feel as dust, grime and dirt consumes it.
Saving your beloved chair is easy. Get your vacuum cleaner started and suck out all those dust and dirt. Even once a week would suffice. In doing so, grit build-up would be put to a minimum. You could also see in the market today the specially made sprays for upholstery. Just read the instructions and test on a small part of your chair first. Better do so if you don’t want your most precious chair from turning black into grey.
Leather Upholstery
Office chairs vary from cloth to leather upholstery. Dirt and grime aren’t picky. Even leather upholstery are vulnerable to these elements if left unchecked. Want solutions to keep this from happening? Preserving leather upholstery is as easy as maintaining cloth upholstery. It’s just that the process is a tad bit different. Still, a vacuum will do the initial cleaning up of dirt. Then, proceed by wiping it with a damp cloth. You can also use leather protectants when it dries up after wiping. Do this at least once in every six months. Also, do not forget to read the leather protectant’s instructions so as not to ruin your office chair.
Wheel or Caster Care
Unlike you who has two legs, your office chair has at least four. The wheels particularly receives most of the weight, and sometimes stress is not evenly distributed. So, to get a better vantage point, let’s turn your chair upside-down and have a good look. Notice little bits of dust bunnies or any other string-like items tangled up in the wheels? Then better get to work and remove things where it doesn’t belong. You can again, put your vacuum cleaner to good use. Run it over each wheel while having the suction attachment in place. You can also use a can of compressed air for small crevices. Apply lubricants to the wheels and make sure to not accidentally spray in unintended areas of your chair. We suggest to also do this at least once every six months.
Fixings and Screws
Sometimes it’s what you don’t see that matters the most. Take a good look under your chair. Do you see holes where screws should be? You should replace those missing parts or tighten what needs tightening. Carelessly leaving it be will shorten its lifespan since it’s not functioning the way it should be. To prevent screws from getting loose, apply adhesives or thread-locking fluids.
For the most part, your chair will be your most dependable companion in the office.
